4 simple steps on how to handle stress when you’re TOO stressed

How to handle stress when you’re TOO stressed?

“We must have a pie. Stress cannot exist in the presence of a pie.” ― David Mamet, Boston Marriage

I know what you’re thinking, how did you know? Well, I have these days so often and it’s hard to tell when I am NOT stressed. However, what do you do when you get to the point where you feel like the world is caving and NOTHING is working? How do you handle when you just can’t breathe anymore? Let me help you a little... I have 4 ways to cope with stress. Yes, 4 ways that will bring your 10 down to a 1 or 2.

Every time I think I have completed a task another one comes up with multiple parts. It’s like a never-ending cycle. You dream about waking up late, you eat dinner in bed or at the computer, you may gain weight because you don’t exercise (that’s a topic for another day), and you’re having a hard time sleeping. Tell me about it, I just described every human being in the world.

Times get rough, and we just need a little help coping, well I have some tips for you that I have tried and continue to do when I feel the stress is becoming too much.

1. Increase Physical Activity

Physical activity can help relieve the stress you’re feeling. You can go for a walk in the fresh air for a few minutes. Incorporate some physical activity in your daily routine, either before or after work or during lunch. I find that when I stop and go outside for a walk or clean my house then I feel so much better.

2. Get More Sleep

Opposite of what we are already doing, right? Stress can cause us to lose that beauty rest that we need to be productive and happy the next day. Ways to help you get to sleep is to stop working or any activity 2 hours before bed, avoid having caffeine in the evenings, so cut it off around 3 pm. Have a bedtime routine so your body is aware that it is time for bed. Take a calming shower and make sure there are no distractions near your bed.YES! That means turn your phone over and have it on a nightstand or something. DO NOT LET YOUR PHONE SLEEP IN THE BED WITH YOU.

3. Make daily lists

This is my personal favorite, and it helps me stay organized. When you wake up or if you have time during the morning write out what you want to get accomplished on that day. THAT DAY ONLY! Write down 1-3 things that you know you can get done that will go towards a bigger goal. When you can complete tasks, you feel much better and when you plan them the day of you know what kind of mood you’re in and can be realistic with your goal.

4. Rest if you are ill

Please rest if you are feeling ill or are ill. The last thing you need is to add stress to your body when it is already battling something. Most of the time it’s our body’s way of saying, “Hey! We need a break.” Even if you take a nap every day after work or go to your car and close your eyes for 10 minutes. You need breaks, especially if you are ill or becoming ill.

I know all of these are easier said than done, but if you practice at least ONE thing here then, you’ll be able to handle your stress so much easier. You will be able to get more things done and find some free time. Stress does not have to come just because you are busy. We all want something out of life and we don’t want to spend most of that time stressed out. Just know that it's okay and to take some time to take a breath. I know you can do this and you can handle anything that comes your way.

True! We all know the saying,"an idle mind is the devil's playground", so we got to get up! lol I love to write too and when I was a kid I used to write short stories in a composition book.
