5 tips to keeping your New Year’s Resolutions in 2020
It’s that time of year again and all these new year resolutions are coming to your mind. I want you to ask yourself how will you maintain these goals? Do you plan to keep this goal and make smaller goals to achieve that? Most of us will have the desire to get healthy, be more positive, or anything that will increase our happiness. I know that it can be hard to achieve your goals and maintain them, so I created some helpful tips that I have personally tried myself. So, here goes...
Tips to keeping your New Year's Resolutions:
Don’t let others set the goals for you.
Have you ever thought about where some of the ideas you have came from? It’s possible that they came from conversations from family and/or friends. Be sure that the goals you have are authentic to YOU. Yes, it’s great that someone tells you that you’d be great at opening a business, but most of the time they will not help you build that. The goal should be something that means something to you and that you care about 100%.
Be clear about what success looks like.
I have a quote hanging on my wall, “Success doesn’t exsist without failure.” You will not wake up on January 2nd with a 6-pack or $10,000 in your bank account. You have to get up and do the work. Accept that you will not succeed in a day's work, but you will get closer to your goals when you do.
Aim High, start low, celebrate and keep going!
Have a few MAJOR goals, literally goals that will take the WHOLE year to achieve. Come on we have 365 days to make it happen. Once you have the major goals, you need to create smaller REALISTIC goals to help you get there one step at a time. Every time you complete the smaller goal to find some way to celebrate. If one of your major goals is to lose 50lbs then a smaller goal could be to lose up to 1 pound per week (completely doable). You weigh in and you lose 1 pound!!! DO NOT reward yourself with food!! Maybe go buy a new dress or pants. Now, you keep going and reach that goal the following week.
Understand why this goal is important
Do not do this goal because everyone is doing it. This is why you have to follow tip number 1 because if you can’t understand why you are trying to achieve this goal, then you are not likely to follow through with it.
Track your performance
Whether you are trying to lose weight, be more positive, or increase your income it is important to track your progress. Tracking weekly or monthly in the beginning will be helpful to truly see how you’re doing. You can use the first few months to determine what works best for you during that time by keeping track.
So, I hope that these 5 tips will help you turn this new year and the new decade into a NEW YOU. I know that it can be hard because we fall back into those old temptations, but following these will definitely help out! Don’t worry I will be there right along with you. I have many goals I want to achieve this coming year and I will be using these steps too. Please comment if you’re going to use these steps or have already started. If you want to comment you only need to provide your email (don’t worry you will not get anything in your inbox you wouldn’t agree to).
